Income of urban residents up 8% in first quarter

The per capita disposable income of Suzhou urban residents grew steadily in the first quarter to 17,339 yuan (US$2,516), 8 percent more than a year earlier and the highest in Jiangsu Province. The per capita living expense grew 7.4 percent to 9,553 yuan in the period, according to official statistics.

The city’s average salary increased 8.8 percent year-on-year to 11,731 yuan in the first quarter; the net income from operations rose 1.4 percent to 2,108 yuan; and the net return on assets jumped 10.3 percent to 2,108 yuan, accounting for 5.8 percent of the per capita disposable income.

Suzhou urban residents spent an average of 2,254 yuan on housing in the first four months, making up 23.6 percent of their living expenses.

The Suzhou Statistics Bureau said local people’s spending on education and entertainment also went up 7.8 percent year-on-year to 1,039 yuan, or 10.9 percent of their living expenses.
