Suzhou upgrades downtown residential communities

Gusu District of Suzhou will launch the second phase of old residential community renovation project to improve residents’ living conditions, according to the city’s reform and development committee.

The renovation project with a total investment of 28 million yuan (US$4.3 million) will include road facilities renovation, greening landscape construction, pipeline replacement and environment improvement. It will cover 36 residential buildings at 222 People's Road, 42 Banlian Alley and the Area B of Nanhao Garden Community which cover 37,000 square areas of land in all.

This year, the district plans to promote the old town protection of Pingjiang area, demolish illegal buildings and structures, accelerate the transformation of urban villages and pilot the “3+X” comprehensive treatment project focusing on transportation, environment and community security.
