May 16, 2018|By Zhang Long

Suzhou plans to build the Zhanggao River pathway to connect Suzhou and Nantong, alleviating the traffic congestion on the Jiangyin Bridge, according to the Department of Environmental Protection of Jiangsu Province.

It used to take local residents 40 minutes to cross the Yangtze River from Zhangjiagang to Rugao by the car ferry. Slated as a provincial road, Rugao S603 Road will take residents of Zhangjiagang only 10 minutes to cross the river, driving at 80 kilometers per hour, said Cai Xiaohua, engineer of Zhangjiagang Railway Construction Service Center.

With a total length of 15 kilometers, the river-spanning sector of the road will extend 6.59 kilometers, and it will be located between the Jiangyin Changjiang Bridge and Shanghai-Nantong Railway, which is now under construction.
