Suzhou has taken the lead in talent platform building in Jiangsu Province. In 2009, the city established a provincial talent platform named Suzhou Venture Week for International Elites to attract overseas high-level talents which has now developed into a well-known high-level talent platform for innovation and entrepreneurship.
In the past nine years, 18,700 high-level professionals from more than 20 countries have been invited to participate in the Suzhou Venture Week and about 70 percent of them have doctor’s degrees. They have brought 18,000 innovative and entrepreneurial projects to the matchmaking meetings.
The Venture Week is playing a bigger part in the city’s talent strategies and the project has become a driving force to the transformation, upgrading and innovative development of the city.
Altogether 3,785 projects have been introduced to Suzhou with the registered capital totaling 29.6 billion yuan (US$4.44 billion) in the past nine years and 112 professionals have been included in the national recruitment program of global experts. Projects introduced during the Venture Week have won 4,301 patents, 5.653 billion yuan of yearly income and 371 million yuan of yearly profit tax.
It is also reported that 95 percent of projects introduced by the Venture Week focus on high-end equipment manufacturing, electronic information, biotechnology and other key industries, which has accelerated the development of new industry clusters in the city.
Supporting activities such as “Small Venture Week,” “Online Venture Week” and “Characteristic Venture Week” have also been organized. So far, 25 "Win-in-Suzhou" overseas venture competitions have been held to support the annual venture week.
Besides, an overseas cooperative organization for talent work has been set up to explore the construction of offshore business incubation.
